in response to lostsoulinSC...   The reason the school wants more money is b/c the Pell Grant is not enough to cover 100% of their cost.  The 2010-2011 MAX. Amount for the Pell is $5500.  It doesn't mean you'll qualify for the $5500, it depends on your income.  If you are attending a "private" school, they will rip you off! I attend a public college, and they charge $95. per credit, one class usually is 3 cr.  I called a private universary, Phoneix Unv. they charge like 10 times of what a public school would.  Did you fill out the FAFSA AP?  Ask your school how much did you get from your pell grant, and how much are your classes N books.  If you are attending a private Unv., chances are you are paying too much and you will be in debt by the time you finish school, IF YOU CAN? Transfer to a public/state college/Unv.....Good Luck!

Mr. Redhed41,

There are a lot of loopholes in your request.  Laws as I'm sure you know, differ from state to state.  Since you mention CDL, is it safe to assume you are in California?  What type of disability are you on?  Permanent, what are your disabilities?  How much are you into your full time school?  How long have you been going?  Are you close to graduate?  If you have made this choice to go to work, have you discussed it with your Social Worker?  There are programs that help disabled to return to work.  It all depends on you, your doctors, counselors, Who ever is involved with these decisions.  It is very hard to get back on disability, once you have left it.  That is why you need to do what ever they request you to do to leave it.  They will have your records that will follow your new path.  They could possible help with obtaining a cargo van, if you can prove you are going to work.  It will make it easier for those here to help, if they have more info. to use in their searches.  You can put your story together and try some of the gift site on line.  Like, www.wishuponahero.com   There are several different ones, and knowing more we can help you prepare better.  Look forward to hearing from you,

Sandav1

Hello,

I am a disabled male age 41 and am looking for information on how I may aquire a interest free loan so I may purchase a Cargo van? I am currently on Social Security Disability and I am not able to find a institution that will loan me the money, because my income is too low. I have found an oppurtunity to get off from Social Security and get back into the working force of America, But am unable to do so without a loan to purchase a new cargo van. I am currently a full time student going to school for medical billing and coding, but i have bills that are piling up and I need to go to work now, I am in the process of aquiring a CDL license class "C" , but again am in need of a cargo van for working purposes.

Thank you, Clare.

It's not that I'm upset by this but, in the past few quarters that I have attended this place, they not once asked for a fee. I was given my books and told to enjoy the classes. Now, apparently someone in Administration has a 'bug up their butt' and are trying to get more money out of the students. This place recently added new rooms for classes; rooms that sit empty and collect dust. If this sort of scenario continues, I might be provoked into getting in touch with the Department of Education. Perhaps they would like to know what is going on here...

I still have a hard time believing that a Technical College would have the audacity to expect more money, on top of tuition and book fees. I have been to a technical college before and they NEVER asked for fees after tuition and books. This place wants money every month after tuition and books. What type of business is this place?

If you have a community where a lot of folks will donate money for the cause, someone in your town could get up a fun day fund raiser.  I live in a small town, and I remember one summer someone donated the use of their rodeo arena for some fun things people can do with their horses( barrel racing, goat tying, relay race, etc.) The public was invited, and was informed that all the money they gave would go to this girl. She was going to the doctor at the time and taking treatments for her cancer.  As I recall, there was quite a crowd which came to the fund raiser.

I know this seems unfair, but schools still collect fees from students even if they have a pell grant.  I went to college for a short time, so I have been through this.

Pell grants will pay for a portion of the tuition.  You have to pay the balance.  I cant say how much the grant will pay, but it does indeed pay some.  It all depends on your financial situation how much the grant does pay.

Good luck in your schooling.

I am currently attending college through a federal Pell Grant. The school says that I owe them student fees. How is this possible if the grant is in effect? They also tried to say that I could not get my books, paid for via the grant, until I make a payment? How is this possible?

in response to BrianL...   Then the answer will be. Move to someplace where there is Work. If that area is dried up, Move on. Any help u may get here will never be enough. At some point u must find a way to support things. If u really want to make it happen, U will. Pretty simple. I have never been out of work. I am fortunate. But I find many ways to make money and I have done fairly well in life. U can to. Don't depend on others for anything. Do it yourself. It's the only way.Ok. Good Luck.

U have to know by now, that when your unemplyment runs out, you're pretty much screwed. Find a job or go belly up? If you are a caucasion type, u may find it very difficult to find any kind of help. It's a vicious world. Welfare would be next. There are jobs out there, Just depends on what u are willing to do. If times are tough, U do any job u have to in order to survive and take care of your responsibilities.

There are always restaurant jobs. They are a dime a dozen. There is maintenance jobs. Here again, Dime a dozen. Drive a Local delivery Truck. Companies are always looking for drivers. There is NOt enough drivers to fill all the jobs. It's not that hard to find work. The key is u have to want to.U have no choice if u expect to survive. Good luck on any grants. They don't exist. Evene if they did, it's only tempoarary and u will be right back where u are today. A job is your only solution just short of winning the lottery.By the way, If u have custody of the kids, why isn't the wife paying support? Take care.

If u don't find the money real soon, the county or city whoever u owe, will file a Tax Lien on your Property. They probably alreay did. This means they have a levy against your house. They will sell your house in due time to collect the taxes. Your Best bet is to sell the house yourself and end the problem. If u are that deep of debt, U can always let your house go thru foreclosure. That will end a lot of the debt load related to the home itself. It will however end the Tax Problem. U have pay the Taxes NO matter what!

U need to check on the status of your property and see what Liens are against it. Then u better come up with a strategy to address the issues.

Selling is the first step. The biggest chunk of money is tied up in your house. U may have equity in your house. This will help pay off those bils. If you are smart, Pay taxes first. Do NOT pay any charge cards or consumer loans unless u have some residual money left over. Keep your Mortgage current if you intend to stay there. Pay your taxes!

Do NOT SCREW around with the government. You will be sorry. They will wipe you out!! Pay your Taxes! Get it.

One more thing. Don't even think about bankruptcy. Waste of Time and Money. U cannot Go bankrupt on the Government. There is NO escape from TAXES!! Pay Up!! Get it, Got it!! Good!!

 in response to Andrew27...

Some of these people are ridiculous. It's hard to believe they think like this. She was Nurse. Now she wants to mow grass and push snow? This has to be a joke. Anybody in their right mind would not do this for a living. First of all, it hardly rains anymore, therefore there is No grass to Mow. The winters are even long and dry. No snow like there used to be. Go to Canada up north and Ice fish. Bring back the fish and sell it. Maybe keep it so u can feed yourselves. Your a woman, go on welfare. With a few kids, you can probably make out pretty good. U can then take under the table jobs and make some xtra cash. I mean a real job now, NOt doing a Job under the Table!

Talk to the sisters in the streets. They can wise u up. Talk to the women of the night. They can tell u stories. If u still have any kind of credit, I would just go out and max those cards out! Don't pay it back. Take the money and buy that Lawn Mower. Sit there and watch it collect dust. Don't worry about paying any debts off. U don't have to. They make a lot of noise, but they can't do anything about it. If u don't own a house, then they cannot attempt attaching a lien to your property. Don't answer your phone unless u can see who it is and u know them. Change the number often. Get a po box. Don't use your home address anymore for anything. Do Not give out your social security number to anybody. I mean anybody. This means, your doctor, your job applications, Nothing!! If u do answer the phone and it's one of those butthead debt collectors, just hang up. NEVER identify yourself. Never give your name and Never tell who you are. They can't do anything about it! A debt collector has no right to collect anything from you anyhow. The original debt has been written off and they bought the debt on a gamble they can try and collect something. If ever u would want to make a payment, it needs to go to the direct lender or charge card company. But u can't do that either after they have already wrote off the debt. U have to lay low for 6-7 years, then the statute of limitations kicks in and your are free of anymore nonsense. You can then start out fresh again. Good Luck.

in response to Bobby2914...   If your really convinced that this idea of yours is neccessary, the why don't u convert your apartment buildings into refuge camps? Maybe a homeless shelter. Mortgages for $200-300 a month? R u kidding? Where are u going to find those? If thats all a Mortgage costs, then even the less advantaged could easily afford that. If u want to know where to get programs, then call around and ask Real Estate Agents. They should know better than anybody. If u don't get a good reply, then you better assume there are NO Programs for such things.
